The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the ACT.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours.
A storm cell has a short time ago passed through northern parts of the ACT, which bought with it lightning, heavy rain and small hail. More storms are likely throughout the evening.
Motorists should take care on the roads and drive to the conditions.
The ACT State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
Remember, for emergency help in floods and storms, ring the ACTSES on 132 500. If you are in a life threatening situation, dial Emergency Triple Zero (000).
