Fire Spread Prediction for ACT

Severe fire danger is forecast across the ACT and south-eastern NSW for Saturday.

Under these conditions’ fires will spread and may threaten properties. Embers may be blown ahead of fires and could start spot fires.

A map of the fire spread is now available on the ESA website.

The dark red areas show locations where fire may spread. Currently, there is the potential that fire could spread as far north as to Tharwa and close to the southern suburbs of Canberra including Banks.

If you’re in one of these areas, you may be impacted by fire. If your plan is to leave, leave early and avoid being in these areas during the heat of the day.

The red dotted area shows locations which may experience embers. These areas could be as far north as Tharwa and close to the southern suburbs of Canberra including Gordon.

Embers may be blown from fires or from fires as they spread. Watch out for spot fires and be ready to take action. If you choose to stay and are impacted by fire, you may not be able to leave.

If you’re in one of these areas:

  • Check your bush fire survival plan. Know what you will do if the fire threatens your area.
  • Make final property preparations now.
  • Leaving early is your safest option. Don’t wait until it’s too late, as roads may be impacted.

Stay up to date on bushfires in your area by checking www.esa.act.gov.au, the Fires Near Me NSW app, social media and local radio.
