Smoke across Canberra from hazard reduction burns

Smoke across Canberra is from a hazard reduction burn underway at Black Mountain to protect Telstra Tower Canberra. A large burn is also continuing in southern Namadgi National Park. It is normal for stumps and heavy logs to continue to smoulder. Crews will continue to monitor and patrol the burn in the comings until no smoke is visible. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area. The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties. For information on all active burns in the ACT please check the ESA Incidents Map.
