ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) are responding to 21 requests for assistance across Canberra, mostly involving fallen trees.
Severe thunderstorms have temporarily eased; however, further severe thunderstorms are still possible. The situation is being closely monitored and further detailed warnings will be issued as necessary.
The highest wind speed recorded was a gust of 98kph at 5:15pm, just to the northwest of the ACT.
ACT Emergency Services Agency reminds drivers to take precaution on the roads and drive to conditions.
The ACTSES advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
