The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for the ACT due to severe thunderstorms, which are likely to produce damaging winds across the ACT over the next several hours.
ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT State Emergency Services are already responding to several requests for assistance.
Urban areas of the ACT may see gusts of 40-50Kph tonight and into tomorrow.
ACT State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
