Hazard reduction burns: health advice

Controlled hazard reduction burns are occurring around the ACT today. Smoke particles can aggravate existing lung conditions, such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma as well as some cardiac conditions. Symptoms can occur for several days after exposure, so people with the above conditions need to be vigilant with their treatment programs.

If you have asthma or a lung condition and you develop symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, follow your personal Asthma or COPD Plan.

Please be mindful that the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department is currently only seeing trauma, paediatric trauma and birthing related emergencies, so please go to Calvary Hospital if you require immediate treatment or attention, otherwise call 000.
