Hazard reduction burns continue on Sunday

The Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) will continue with hazard reduction burns today (Sunday 17 January 2016) in Chapman.

The burns started yesterday at Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve.

Fire crews will also monitor and patrol a separate area that was burned in Fraser yesterday near Shakespeare Crescent and Rogers Street.

Temporary smoke cover may still occur in the areas around the burn locations. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
