Work is underway to remove the truck from the Acton tunnel.
Misting spray is being used to stop any fibres from escaping the tunnel. Licensed asbestos removalists and assessors are on site and there is no risk of asbestos exposure outside of the tunnel.
The truck is tangled in some of the overhead rigging in the tunnel, so the removal is a delicate operation. Mechanics are currently on site assessing the excavator before an attempt to move the vehicle is made. The work is being conducted methodically and carefully by experts so that it is done safely. The ACT Government's main priority is public safety while the tunnel is being cleared.
Existing road closures continue to be in place. Motorists are advised to drive carefully on the eastbound section near Acton tunnel and to keep their eyes on the road.
