Two hazard reduction burns in Bruce tomorrow

The Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) will tomorrow, Wednesday 16 April, 2014, conduct two hazard reduction burns, weather permitting in Bruce near Calvary Hospital and the Australian Institute of Sport.

The two burns will cover approximately five hectares in an area of bushland south or Purdie Street, adjacent to Hyson Place and Masterman Street.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burns is K11.

Staff will continue to monitor the burns until no smoke is visible for 24 hours.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in
weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory
and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay
inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their
medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
