Roads melting due to prolonged extreme heat

Roads ACT is currently placing crushed stone on a number of roads throughout Canberra to prevent damage from the heat. Signs warning of loose stones are posted at all sites where this treatment has been applied.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the heat and watch for loose stone signage. In some areas - depending on the extent of the problem, the type of road and the volume and speed of traffic - a reduced speed limit may be implemented.

The current hot weather is expected to continue tomorrow.

The weather is predicted to cool early next week and the loose stones on these roads will then be removed.

If people notice any issues on the roads they should report it to Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
