Hazard reduction burns in the Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve

Two controlled burns will be conducted in the Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 by the ACT Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS).

The combined burn area is approximately 15 hectares in size.

TAMS has advised experienced fire managers will be supported by trained fire-fighters from ACT Parks and Conservation and ACT Fire and Rescue.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
