ESA tests new location based function of telephone warning system

The ACT Emergency Services Agency has today conducted a test on the new location based capability of the national EMERGENCY ALERT telephone warning system.

The test, requested by the Australian Government, involved sending an SMS message to all mobile phones, on the Telstra network, physically located within the Parliament House precinct and surrounds at the time.

The additional 'location based' capability was recently added to the national EMERGENCY ALERT telephone warning system for all Telstra mobile network customers. This is expected to be expanded to other carriers in 2013.
