ACTSES receive 14 calls for help due to wet weather

The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has received a total of 14 calls for help since 3pm today as a result of the wet weather.

ACTSES volunteers and ACT Fire & Rescue are responding to minor flooding and leaking roofs across a widespread area of the ACT.

ACTSES advise parents to make sure your children do not go near floodways in heavy rain events. Playing near stormwater drains or large bodies of water places your children at high risk of serious injury or death.

If out on the roads, drive to the conditions including slowing down and leaving a greater distance between you and the car in front. Under no circumstances attempt to drive through large bodies of water.

You should monitor ACT local media, the ESA website (esa.act.gov.au) and the ESA Twitter and Facebook accounts for alerts and updates.

The Bureau of Meteorology web site (www.bom.gov.au/act) publishes all flood warnings, rainfall and river level information.

Residents who require assistance can call the ACTSES on 132 500.
