INFORMATION UPDATE - DANGEROUS SMOKE

The recycling centre at Underwood Street, Beard was been impacted by the Beard Fire yesterday.

This resulted in dangerous levels of smoke which impacted visibility and air quality.

Atmospheric monitoring was conducted this morning in the areas surrounding the recycling centre.

No hazardous levels of air quality were detected in the areas of Beard, Oaks Estate or Uriarra Road.

Air quality is currently at a safe level for people in these areas.

Due to ongoing operations, ESA ask the community to avoid areas surrounding the recycling centre if you don't need to be there.

People who are sensitive to smoke, especially those with pre-existing heart and lung conditions, should continue to take care.

The recycling centre in Underwood Street, Beard has been impacted by the Beard Fire and is producing dangerous levels of smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Firefighters are working to extinguish this fire.

If you are in the area or impacted by smoke you need to:

  • Stay inside, close all windows and doors
  • Turn off air conditioning and evaporative coolers
  • If you are not in the area, do not return

The Kallaroo Fire and the Pialligo Redwood Forest Fire have merged.

The fire is now called the Beard Fire. The warning level for the Beard Fire is EMERGENCY WARNING.
