End of the 2023-24 High-Risk Weather Season

Today, 31 March 2024, marks the end of the 2023-24 high-risk weather season, with both the bushfire and storm seasons️ coming to an end.

It’s been a busy season for our emergency services, with crews responding to 2,316 storm incidents, and 26 grass & bushfires.

Firefighters and incident management professionals also supported our allies internationally with more than 30 personnel deployed to Canada in support of wildfires burning across the country.

The end of the declared bushfire season means there will no longer be a daily bushfire danger rating, and some burning activities will no longer require a permit.

A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers from the ACT Rural Fire Service, ACT State Emergency Service, ACT Community Fire Units, ACT Fire & Rescue, ACT Ambulance Service and other agencies that work together to keep the Canberra community safe.
