Calling all young creatives – could your artwork feature on the cover of our new bushfire plan?
The ACT Rural Fire Service reviews the Strategic Bushfire Management Plan (SBMP) every five years, to plan out how to protect and prepare Canberra’s community.
The service is now asking creative ACT school students to design a new cover for the plan that represents the following design theme: “Shared Responsibility – we all have a role in preparing for bushfires”.
Who can enter?
Any student that attends school in the ACT, from kindergarten to Year 12. Solo and group entries are welcomed – you can enter as a class if you wish!
How to enter
All submissions can be made via email to RFS@act.gov.au. All submissions must be scanned or photographed and attached to the email as a PDF or jpeg file.
Entries close Sunday, 15 December.
Design theme
Shared Responsibility – we all have a role in preparing for bushfires.
We would love to see some creative representations of shared responsibility, in relation to preparing for and responding to bushfires. This can be literal and realistic, or abstract.
Think about all the different roles that need to be played:
ACTRFS – our volunteer firefighters/first responders, our fire planners and strategic experts;
ACT Government – strategic planning support, broader community services that need to keep running even during a bushfire;
ACT Community – supporting each other, learning from the experts and staying informed, making their homes safe.
Your immediate family – making a ‘survival plan’ together, creating an ‘emergency kit’, making your house prepared.
You – what role do you play?
What design mediums will be accepted?
All design mediums will be accepted, as long as the artwork can be scanned or clearly photographed when submitted.
Mediums – painting, pencil/pen/charcoal/pastel drawings, digital/graphic design, collage, etc. If photography/images are featured in your design, they cannot show people’s faces and must be your original images.
Design size
The design must fit in a standard A4 page size - 210mm x 297mm.
Terms and Conditions
All designs submitted are original work and are not plagiarised.
Competition winners’ designers will be featured in and/or on the Strategic Bushfire Management Plan version 5 (SBMPv5) document, and any other SBMPv5 related documents or content. Designs will be credited to their creator within the SBMPv5 document.
Upon winner selection, a story will be run via the ESA social media channels (and other ACT Government social media channels). This story will feature winners’ names and designs. Winning creators may be asked to participate in this story. Photos of the winner to feature in this story are optional – written parental permissions must be granted for use of any student photos to feature in this story.
