Building Fire - Rae Street, Belconnen

ACT Fire & Rescue firefighters have now contained the building fire on Rae Street Belconnen. 

Firefighters are working to extinguished two small areas of fire. Due to the instability of the building, crews will not be entering the structure. 

Residents earlier advised to close windows and turn off air conditioning towards Emu Bank Drive can now open windows and turn on air conditioning. 

The cause of the fire is not yet yet known. The scene will shortly be handed to ACT policing who will determine the cause of the fire. 

Roads remain closed in the area. 

ACT Fire & Rescue are on scene at a confimed building fire on Rae Street, Belconnen. 

Firefighters are working to contain a fire which is burning within a shop. Fire & Rescue crews have confirmed the building is fully involved in fire.

Surrounding buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while crews work to slow the spread of fire.

Local road closures on Rae Street and Josephson Street are in place.

A large amount of smoke is emanating from the location and residents to the east of the fire towards Emu Bank Drive are advised to close windows and turn off their air conditioning.

The community is asked to avoid the area.
