ADVICE: Bushfires - Namadgi National Park - Stay Informed (Cotter Hut Ignition 1)

A fourth bushfire ignition has been detected in the Namadgi National Park, as well as a lightning strike that set a tree alight on private property off Point Hut Road.
 
Firefighters and aircraft are responding to the new ignition near Corin Dam, as well as three other fires that have been burning in the area since Saturday afternoon.

Work is continuing to blackout and make safe these fires, and there is no immediate threat to life or property.
 
Remote Area Firefighting Teams from the ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parks and Conservation Service have worked throughout Monday to strengthen containment lines and extinguish hotspots. 

Crews will continue work on Tuesday, and are monitoring for further storm activity.

The fires were detected on Saturday (03/01) afternoon, after a storm cell passed through the area.

Specialist Remote Area Firefighting Teams (RAFT), and aerial firefighting aircraft have been working throughout the weekend to establish containment lines and extinguish hotspots. 
 
The ACT State Emergency Services been assisting the incident response by providing flood boats to access the very remote, rugged terrain. 
 
Rainfall today aided firefighting efforts, and favourable weather conditions are expected tomorrow (05/01). The Fire Danger Rating is 🟩 Moderate.
 
The ACT Rural Fire Service is monitoring the situation overnight, and work to contain the fires will continue on Monday.
 
There is no immediate threat to life or property.

Favourable weather conditions overnight means fire growth has been minimal. The total burnt area is approximately 10 hectares.

Today's Fire Danger Rating is: 🟩 Moderate. 🔥 Fire activity is low in intensity.

Specialist Remote Area Firefighter Teams (RAFT) and firefighting aircraft are attending to the incidents today, working to establish control lines to contain the fires as quickly as possible.

The community can expect to see smoke in the area, and helicopters travelling between Namadgi National Park and the Hume ACTRFS Aviation Base.

There is no immediate threat to life or property.

Update 7:42 PM: Three fires are continuing to burn in very remote parts of the Namadgi National Park, southwest of Canberra.

Weather conditions are favourable, and the size of the fires remains stable.

It's expected that additional remote area firefighting teams and aircraft will respond to the incidents on Sunday (04/01) morning.

Firefighters from the ACT Rural Fire Service will continue to monitor the situation throughout the evening.

There is no immediate threat to life or property.
