ACT Fire & Rescue has responded to a gas leak at the Downer shops.
Just before 6pm a smell of gas was reported to Emergency Triple Zero (000). It's believed a car struck a gas pipe at the rear of the shops.
About 20 people have been evacauted from the area and firefighters have established an exclusion zone to isolate the gas leak.
Crews are expected to remain on site for about an hour.
