ACT firefighters to help in Tasmania

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) will be deploying personnel to help with fire fighting efforts continuing in Tasmania.

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will be deploying two Remote Area Fire Teams (RAFT). One team of 10 ACTRFS members will be departing Canberra Saturday and another RAFT of 10 will be leaving on Sunday. They will be part of a contingent of 100 Remote Area Firefighters from NSW.

The RAFT firefighters will fight the fire in rugged bushland and difficult terrain to assist Tasmanian fire crews. They will be deployed for 5 days.

One ACT Fire & Rescue officer will also join part of a multi-agency Incident Management Team. They will depart Canberra Sunday to begin work Monday in North West Tasmania, deployed for 7 days.

51 uncontrolled fires continue to burn across Tasmania and at least 36,500 hectares have been burnt.

Tasmanian authorities are very concerned with no relief expected from the forecasted weather conditions.
