Chapman home destroyed by fire

A house in Chapman has this morning been destroyed by fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue was alerted to the fire in Tauchert Street just before 2 o'clock.

A woman, who was the only occupant of the home, called Emergency Triple Zero (000) to raise the alarm after safely evacuating herself.

Fire crews arrived a short time after to find the property fully engulfed in flames.

The roof of the house collapsed as multiple fire crews worked to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage but will be investigated.

The initial estimated damage bill is $500,000.
