Update two - Apartment complex fire in Turner

ACT Fire & Rescue reminds the community about the need to have working smoke alarms installed in your home.

Firefighters were alerted to the apartment fire by neighbours who heard a smoke alarm sounding off.

The occupant had fallen asleep while cooking food.

ACT Fire & Rescue Commander Todd Bourne said this fire today demonstrates the importance of having working smoke alarms. We see time and time again that working smoke alarms save lives.

"It's also very important to not leave cooking unattended. One of our winter home fire safety community campaigns in recent years made that very clear to the public - Don't Stop Looking While You're Cooking," he said

Due to the quick response by ACT Fire & Rescue the apartment only sustained minor smoke damage.
