ACTSES to host annual Navigation event

The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) will tomorrow, Saturday 23 May, 2015, hold its annual Navigation Canberra (NAVCAN) exercise in the Namadgi National Park.

80 competitors from all seven ACTSES volunteer Units and three volunteer Brigades from the ACT Rural Fire Service will form into teams of three to six members.

Crews will be briefed at 9.10am before starting from Blue Range Hut.

NAVCAN is an activity similar to rogaining and the teams will develop, practice and improve navigation skills through the day. Teams will be issued with a map and a list of checkpoints to mark across a pre-set course through the bushland. Some participants will be expected to walk up to a distance of 20 kilometres during the event.

The ACT RFS Molonglo Brigade will compete who are the current holders of the NAVCAN shield after winning the event last year.

The event is expected to conclude by 4.30pm.
