Smoke visible across ACT from NSW burn

Smoke is visible and there is a strong smell of fire across the ACT tonight.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has begun a hazard reduction program in the Southern Ranges, with fuel reduction underway at Jounama in central-northern Kosciuszko National Park.

It is expected this fire will continue to produce smoke over the coming days.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency requests that people do not ring Emergency Triple Zero (000) for this fire but are urged to report any other new fires that they might identify that are unattended.
