Hazard Reduction burn tonight at Stromlo

The ACT Rural Fire Service Rivers Brigade will tonight, Thursday 13 December, 2012, weather permitting, conduct a hazard reduction burn at the Rivers Fire Shed, Cotter Road, Stromlo.

The burn will commence from 7pm to 10pm.

Three heavy tankers, one medium tanker, one command vehicle and 20 personnel will conduct the burn of grass, approximately 100 metres x 50 metres in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is J12.

The purpose of the burn is to reduce a fire hazard.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
