Two hazard reduction burns in the ACT tomorrow

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will conduct two hazard reduction burns tomorrow, Thursday 19 January, 2012, weather permitting, at Fyshwick and at Ngunnawal.

The ACTRFS Jerrabomberra Brigade will commence stage one of the Fyshwick burn on Dairy Road near the Monaro Highway from 7pm till 10pm, at the ActewAGL Fyshwick Sewage Treatment Plant.

Two heavy tankers, two light units, a command vehicle and 15 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx 250 square meters.

The purpose of the burn is to allow ActewAGL to assess the condition of the lagoon embankments at the Fyshwick Sewage Treatment Plant in order to accurately scope any required maintenance. Pending weather conditions, this burn will be completed on Saturday morning 21 January, 2012.

Also tomorrow, from 6pm till 10pm, weather permitting, the ACTRFS Gungahlin Brigade will conduct a hazard reduction burn, at Ngunnawal Hills, near Marungul Avenue, Ngunnawal.

Two heavy tankers, one medium unit, one light unit, a command vehicle and 20 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx one hectare.

The purpose of the burn is to reduce a fire hazard and a training exercise for volunteers.
