The ACT Rural Fire Service will tomorrow night, Wednesday 20 February, 2013, weather permitting, conduct four hazard reduction burns at Nicholls north and south, Fraser and Latham.
All four burns will commence from 6pm to 10pm with the purpose of the burns to reduce a fire hazard.
The Nicholls north burn, near Stedman Place will be approximately half a hectare in size. One heavy tanker, one medium tanker and eight personnel will conduct the burn.
The Nicholls south burn near Cecins Place will be approximately 1.3 hectares in size. One heavy tanker, one medium tanker and eight personnel will conduct the burn.
The Fraser burn at Mt Rodgers, near Wickens Place will be approximately 1.9 hectares in size. One heavy tanker, one Compressed Air Foam System tanker, two medium tankers and 20 personnel will conduct the burn.
The Latham burn at Umbagong District Park, near Denny Street will be approximately 1.5 hectares in size. One heavy tanker, one medium tanker, one command vehicle and 10 personnel will conduct the burn.
The ACT Handy Map grid references for the four burns are K9 for the Nicholls north and south burns and J10 for the Fraser and Latham burns.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
