ACT Emergency Services Commissioner Georgeina Whelan has declared a Total Fire Ban for the whole of the ACT under Section 114 of the Emergencies Act 2004 for the duration of Friday 3 January and Saturday 4 January 2020.
Earlier today a State of Alert was declared for the entire ACT.
In addition, NSW has declared a State of Emergency for the next 7 days for the entire state of NSW.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting hot, dry and windy conditions over this period with temperatures predicted to reach 42 degrees. The smoke haze will remain in the region.
The forecast Fire Danger Rating (FDR) is predicted to reach EXTREME on Saturday. This means if a fire starts it may be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving.
Residents in Bushfire Prone Areas are urged to review their Bushfire Survival Plan or if you don't have a plan in place, to take the time to create one.
