The emergency response to last night's severe thunderstorm continues.
The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has received over 900 calls for assistance so far.
Emergency response teams, support agencies, and Evoenergy, are working together to respond as quickly as possible and are aiming to have the power restored to the majority of affected households by 9.00pm tonight.
A small number of households may continue to be affected for up to 24 hours and Evoenergy are communicating directly with those that may need additional support during this time.
Belconnen Library on 12 Chandler Street in Belconnen will open early tomorrow from 9.00am if you need to charge any devices and spend some time in the air conditioning.
The ACTSES must prioritise jobs that threaten community safety, this includes clearing roads, footpaths and cycle paths. Please be patient as crews from multiple agencies work through the high number of requests for assistance. We anticipate that our focus will continue to be on our Priority 1 calls for at least the next 48 hours.
Green waste from your own property can be disposed of free of charge at Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre and Canberra Sand and Gravel on Parkwood Road in Belconnen or for a small fee at Canberra Sand and Gravel on Vicars Street in Mitchell.
