Man sustains serious burns in car fire at Stirling

A man has been rushed to hospital after suffering serious burns trying to extinguish a car fire in Stirling tonight.

The ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue were called to the Shenton Crescent property around 11 o'clock after being alerted to a car fire.

When crews arrived they found a man in his 40's extinguished the fire after being alerted to it but in the process sustained burns to 25 per cent of his body including his legs, abdomin, chest, head and one arm.

Intensive care paramedics stablised him on scene and transported him to The Canberra Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
