Step 1: Register your interest
Should you be interested in registering your interest to become a volunteer rural fire fighter after having a look through the information on our website and referring to the below links, please complete the Introduction form below and press submit.
Your details will be automatically forwarded to the Recruitment and Retention Officer (RRO) who will contact you as soon as possible to discuss the process in greater detail.
Should you wish to continue with your application, the RRO will send you a copy of the information booklet containing brigade contact details and other relevant information.
Step 2: Brigade Visit / application pack
You will now have the contact information for your chosen brigade. You will need to make contact with that brigade and determine a time to meet with them. This is a chance for you to meet other members of that brigade, visit the shed and facilities, ask questions and collect an application pack.
Step 3: Formally becoming a volunteer member
Once your application has been approved you will then be able to participate in brigade training sessions. These session are typically held once a fortnight on either a Wednesday or Thursday night from approximately 7:30-9:00pm, although exact times and dates vary with each brigade. Here you will learn the skill required to be a competent rural fire fighter, with the option of acquiring additional skills such as; truck driving, chain saw operations and Remote Area Fire Fighting (RAFT). Your brigade training officer is responsible for enrolling you in a basic fire fighter course, usually conducted over three (3) weeknights and one (1) weekend and are held at various times throughout the year to meet demand. You will also be fitted out with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) once this course in complete. From here you will be ready to begin your exciting journey as a Volunteer Rural Fire Fighter!
