Hazard reduction burns continue today in the ACT

The Territory and Municipal Services Directorate will today Sunday 29 March, 2015, weather permitting continue with a 958 hectare hazard reduction burn at Camelback, north of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. The burn will reduce fire fuel loads in the area and will take three to four days to complete.

A 380 hectare hazard reduction burn will also continue along the Hardy Range to the east of the Cotter River, Namadgi National Park.

A 260 hectare hazard reduction burn has been completed Lone Pine to the west of Boboyan Road on the Luton fire trail in Namadgi National Park. The site will continue to be monitored.

Also, the National Capital Authority will today, Sunday 29 March, 2015, weather permitting conduct a hazard reduction burn at Yarramundi Grasslands. Lady Denman Drive, near Glenlock Interchange.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
