Hazard reduction burns today and tomorrow

A private landholder will today (Friday 16 May, 2014) and tomorrow (Saturday 17 May, 2014), weather permitting conduct a hazard reduction burn on Parkwood Road, west of Macgregor.

Also tomorrow, weather permitting, the ACT Rural Fire Service will assist the National Capital Authority with a hazard reduction burn north-east of the National Zoo and Aquarium at Lindsay Pryor National Arboretum, east of the Tuggeranong Parkway and adjacent to Yarramundi Reach.

The burn is expected to commence from 9.30am until 5pm. More information on this burn can be found at http://www.nationalcapital.gov.au/

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
