Hazard reduction burn today at Tharwa

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) Southern and Tidbinbilla Brigades will conduct a hazard reduction burn today, 2 October, 2012, weather permitting, from 5.30pm till 9pm at the Property "MURRAMORE", Point Hut Road, Tharwa.

One heavy tanker, two medium tankers, two light units and 15 personnel will conduct the burn of approx 40 hectares in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is J15.

The purpose of the burn is to remove a grass fuel hazard.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
