Baby girl born in back seat of car

The ACT Ambulance Service has assisted in the delivery of a baby girl in the back seat of a car.

The parents of the baby girl were on route to The Canberra Hospital when they were forced to pull over at the corner of Northbourne Avenue and Alinga Street, Canberra City, as the baby's head had started to breach.

The father of the baby girl made an Emergency Triple Zero (000) call at 2:12am and was provided advice on how to assist in the delivery by an ACT Ambulance Service Communications Call Taker.

The baby girl was born minutes after the initial Emergency Triple Zero (000) call was received and post delivery advice was provided to the mother from an ACT Ambulance Service Communications Clinician.

A crew of two ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics arrived on scene a short time later.

Mother and baby were both transferred to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition. The baby girl, is the second daughter for the family.
