Hazard reduction burn at Fyshwick tomorrow night

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will conduct a hazard reduction burn tomorrow, Thursday 2 February, 2012, weather permitting, at Fyshwick.

The ACTRFS Jerrabomberra Brigade will commence stage one of the burn on Dairy Road near the Monaro Highway from 6pm till 10pm, at the ActewAGL Fyshwick Sewage Treatment Plant.

Three heavy tankers, two light units, a command vehicle and 20 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx three hectares.

The purpose of the burn is to allow ActewAGL to assess the condition of the lagoon embankments at the Fyshwick Sewage Treatment Plant in order to accurately scope any required maintenance.

Pending weather conditions, this burn will be completed on Saturday 4 February, 2012.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is L13.

Update on calls for help following wet and windy weather

ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has received 14 calls for help today following the wet and windy weather.

ACTSES volunteers and ACT Fire & Rescue crews have responded to leaking roofs as well as trees and branches across roads and pathways. SES volunteers have also attended a residence at Latham after a six metre tree had fallen onto a pergola that also damaged a telephone line. Minor damage reported.

Residents who require storm and flood assistance can call the ACTSES on 132-500.

Nine calls for help following wet and windy weather

ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has received nine calls for help this morning following the wet and windy weather.

ACTSES volunteers and ACT Fire & Rescue crews have responded to leaking roofs as well as trees and branches across roads and pathways, with Canberra’s southern suburbs mostly affected.

Minor damage reported.

Residents who require storm and flood assistance can call the ACTSES on 132-500.

Apartment fire extinguished in Belconnen

A quick response tonight by ACT Fire & Rescue crews has prevented an apartment fire spreading to an adjoining property in Macquarie.

Several units responded to the Blaxcell Place home after receiving an emergency triple zero call just after 11 o’clock.

On arrival firefighters forced entry and conducted a search but found nobody inside.

They quickly extinguished the fire and contained it to the ground floor of the property.

The cause will be investigated.

Hazard Reduction burn at Fraser postponed

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) advise that tonight’s hazard reduction burn at Mount Rogers Reserve, Fraser has been postponed.
