Update – Fire inside Mitchell building

A search of the premises has found no one inside.

The fire has been fully extinguished.

Firefighters have commenced ventilating the smoke from the premises.

ACT Fire & Rescue are on scene at a fire in a building at Grimwade Street in Mitchell.

A small amount of smoke is currently issuing from the premises.

Firefighters are currently conducting a search inside but the business was not believed to have been operating tonight.

A small number of people have been evacuated from a nearby building as a precaution.

House in Spence damaged by fire

ACT Fire & Rescue has extinguished a house fire in Spence this morning.

Several crews responded to the Horan Place property just after 9:30am to find a bedroom/study well alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the home to search for anyone inside but found no one was home.

The property has sustained major fire and smoke damage.

The cause will be investigated.

Small hazard reduction burn at Stromlo

A private landholder will today conduct a small hazard reduction burn of one pile of vegetation on the property of “Winslade”, Cotter Road, Stromlo.

The purpose of the burn is the removal of accumulated fuel.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is I13.

Male treated for injuries following skate park accident

ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service have been on scene at Belconnen Skate Park, Emu Bank, Belconnen attending to a male patient following an accident.

15-year-old male was initially unconscious.

ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics removed the patient from the skate park in a stretcher. Intensive care paramedics have treated the patient for minor injuries and are transporting him to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.
