Update – House fire in Fadden

Firefighters have contained the fire to the kitchen of the property and quickly extinguished it.

Fire and smoke damage has been sustained in the kitchen and smoke damage to the rest of the home.

Crews are now commencing ventilation of the premises.

The fire was started by food left cooking on a stove unattended.

ACT Fire & Rescue is responding to reports of a house fire in Sparkes Close Fadden.

The first crew on scene has confirmed smoke and flames issuing from the property.

Smoke spreads from hazard reduction burn

The ACT Rural Fire Service is currently conducting a hazard reduction burn in Fyshwick tonight which is producing a large amount of smoke over adjoining suburbs.

There are no other fires burning in the ACT at this time.

People with breathing difficulties should remain indoors until the smoke clears.

The ACTRFS Jerrabomberra Brigade commenced stage one of the burn on Dairy Road near the Monaro Highway from at 6pm at the ActewAGL Fyshwick Sewage Treatment Plant.

Three heavy tankers, two light units, a command vehicle and 20 personnel are conducting the burn covering a total area of approx three hectares.

The purpose of the burn which is scheduled to be extinguished by 10pm tonight is to allow ActewAGL to assess the condition of the lagoon embankments at the Fyshwick Sewage Treatment Plant in order to accurately scope any required maintenance.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is L13.

Update on fire in city building extinguished

Fire started when plastics on a stove top ignited.

Minimal damage.

Fire was in a residential apartment on the sixth floor.

Two fire pumpers on scene with the Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform, the Breathing Apparatus van and a Command vehicle.

Crews alerted following an Automatic Fire Alarm at 1.28pm.
