12:02pm Wednesday 24 August 2011 – Man injured following roof accident

ACT Fire Brigade and ACT Ambulance Service on scene at Slessor Crescent, McKellar following a roofing accident on a residential home.

A resident of the single storey house has slipped on his roof, with ACT Fire Brigade crews using a rescue stretcher to lower the patient off the roof.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics are treating the male aged approx in his 60’s, for a leg fracture and will soon transport to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

ACT Fire Brigade would like to remind the community to exercise caution whilst conducting maintenance work on roofs of structures.

9:08am Tuesday 23 August 2011 – ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics deliver baby boy at a Kambah home

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics have delivered a baby boy this morning at a home at Kambah.

An Emergency Triple Zero (000) call was made at 7.20am by the patients partner. An ACT Ambulance Service Communications Call taker assisted with advice over the phone until intensive care paramedics arrived, to find the woman aged in her 30’s going into labour in a corridor at the home.

Intensive care paramedics successfully delivered the baby after some complications with the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby boy’s neck.

Both mother and baby are well and were taken to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

7:15pm Sunday August 2011 – Update eight – Recycling business fire

Firefighters spent the day turning over piles in the fire at the recycling business fire in the Parkwood Industrial Estate at West Belconnen.

The ACT Fire Brigade will maintain one crew on scene overnight.

Firefighters will start turning over the piles again in the morning as they continue to work on extinguishing the fire.

Winds continue to be light in the area.
