The ACT Fire Brigade is on scene at CSIRO Taxonomy Building in Acton following reports of smoke coming from the building.

Bushwalker taken to hospital with heat exhaustion

The ACT Ambulance Service has treated a male bushwalker this afternoon for heat exhaustion.

Intensive care paramedics stablised the patient on Black Mountain then transported him to Calvary Hospital in a stable condition.

The ACT Ambulance Service reminds bushwalkers to ensure they carry an adequate amount of water during hot weather.

Update – House fire in Ngunnawal

Firefighters have quickly extinguished the fire.

The fire was caused by a ruptured gas connection at the front of the house.

Only minimal damage to the property.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, today reminded Canberrans about what preparations can be done around the home to be ready for the threat of bushfires over summer.

The reminder comes ahead of the ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) annual bushfire season community awareness campaign.

“The presence of grass fuel across the landscape as a result of prolonged wet weather in the Territory means there is a significant risk to the Canberra community in the months ahead,” Mr Corbell said.

“The seasonal outlook indicates that there will be average rainfall over the summer period, however daytime and night time temperatures will be higher than normal,” he said.
