Small fire at Hyatt Hotel

The ACT Fire Brigade has evacuated a section of the Hyatt Hotel in Yarralumla tonight following a small fire.

Crews responded to the premises on Commonwealth Avenue to find a small electrical fire in a light fitting, located in the business centre, had already been extinguished.

The business centre and foyer of the hotel are currently evacuated while firefighters ventilate the area.

Small hazard reduction burn tomorrow at Yarralumla

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACT RFS) Rivers Brigade will conduct a small hazard reduction burn tomorrow from 12.00pm till 2pm, Saturday 30 April, 2011 weather permitting, at Attunga Point near the Canberra Yacht club on the eastern side of Lake Burley Griffin, Yarralumla.

The purpose of the burn is to reduce a fire hazard and provide a training opportunity for RFS volunteers.

Three tankers, and 10 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx two hectares.

Firefighter heroes receive special awards

ACT Fire Brigade Chief Officer Paul Swain today presented a series of awards to 45 firefighters from the ACT Fire Brigade at a special ceremony at the Forrest Fire Station and Canberra Museum.
