Update two – Belconnen hostel fire forces evacuation

ACT Fire & Rescue has confirmed a total of 13 residents were evacuated from the block affected by the fire only. ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics will be transporting three patients to Calvery Hospital in stable conditions. A fourth patient is still being assessed. Alternative accommodation is being arranged for the other affected residents.

The ACT Ambulance Service is currently assessing a total of nine patients for the possibility of minor smoke inhalation. The fire is believed to have started in a motorised mobility chair. One block of the hostel has sustained smoke and water damage.

Update 21 – Birrigai evacuation completed safely

Students and staff from Holy Trinity Primary School attending a camp at Birrigai Outdoor School have now been returned safely back to Holy Trinity Primary School at Curtin. Holy Trinity Primary School at Curtin is definitely open today. Brindabella Road is closed from the start of the dirt section to the NSW border.
