The ACT Government has closed Kambah Pool and Kambah Pool Road. Camp Cottermouth is also closed until further notice.
Early this afternoon, ACT Emergency Services Agency personnel will begin doorknocking homes along the urban interface from Kambah through to Gordon.
This is a pre-emptive activity to help residents be aware of materials available at www.esa.act.gov.au to help prepare their homes and identify steps that will keep them safe if the fire continues to spread.
It is important residents start thinking about their bushfire plan and be aware of the bushfire alert levels so they can take appropriate action as firefighters continue work to extinguish the fire.
Targeted areas include those homes already identified as part of the ACT Government’s annual CBR Be Ready bushfire awareness doorknock campaign announced by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services last week.
The Pierce Creek fire is still located 8kms from the nearest suburb. The fire is 113 hectares in size at this time and is out of control.
The fire is burning erratically and is heading in a south-easterly direction in steep terrain.
There is currently no threat to property and no evacuations have been ordered, for residents or horses or other animals.
A map of the fire is available at www.esa.act.gov.au
