Multiple hazard reduction burns

The Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) ACT Parks are undertaking multiple hazard reduction burns, weather permitting, today and across the weekend.

A 460 hectare burn is currently underway at Gibraltar Peak in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, southeast of Tidbinbilla Reserve Road, east and north of Gibralter Fire Trail and west of Mushroom Rock Fire Trail.

A 2327 hectare burn is also taking place in Honeysuckle, south of Honeysuckle Creek and Apollo Road, west of Orroral Road.

Crews are continuing to monitor and patrol the burn taking place on Bendora Road in the Cotter River District.

Crews will continue to monitor the burn sites until smoke has not been visible for 24 hours.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency requests that people do not ring Emergency Triple Zero (000) for these fires but are urged to report any other new fires that they might identify that are unattended by firefighters.
