ACT Fire & Rescue were called to a gas leak on Chuculba Crescent in Giralang just before 5pm.
Two fire pumpers and a Commander responded to the incident.
Occupants of several nearby houses were advised by firefighters to remain inside, keep doors and windows closed and not use electrical appliances as a precaution.
Contractors shut off the gas supply and are now working to repair the damaged section of pipe.
ACT Fire & Rescue have now left the scene.
