Test of telephone warning system underway

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) has commenced a test of the national telephone based emergency warning system, EMERGENCY ALERT.

The exercise involves the issuing a test warning message in targeted geographical areas of the city, in the Black Mountain precinct, to evaluate the effectiveness of the system.

The test will impact on parts of Acton, Turner and Black Mountain itself.

As part of the test, people who have a landline telephone in the identified test areas will receive a recorded voice message.

Mobile phones in the chosen trial areas of these suburbs will receive a text message.

There is no need to take any action if you receive one of these test messages this afternoon.

It is crucial that you DO NOT call '000' for information on the warning system or trial.
