Update 10 – Acton tunnel damage

Traffic monitoring indicates there was a reduction of vehicles using Parkes Way towards the Acton tunnel this morning, with motorists choosing to avoid the area and use various other routes such as Belconnen Way/Barry Drive; Majura Parkway towards Fairbairn Avenue; and Northbourne Avenue to access the city.

WorkSafe has advised there are no safety concerns associated with using the eastbound carriage way of the Acton Tunnel while remedial work continues in the westbound tunnel.

Traffic monitoring will continue and adjustments made to traffic lights as necessary to help manage vehicle flow, and motorists are advised to drive carefully on the eastbound section near Acton tunnel and to keep their eyes on the road.

Westbound lanes on Parkes Way, leaving the city, remain closed between Clunies Ross Street and Edinburgh Avenue. The eastbound lanes of Parkes Way through Acton tunnel have a 40 kilometre per hour speed limit in place. Motorists are urged to drive with extra care in the area. Delays are expected.

Westbound traffic leaving the city is being diverted right onto Coranderrk Street, left onto Cooyong Street, straight onto Barry Drive, left onto Clunies Ross Street, Lady Denman Drive and onto the Tuggeranong Parkway.
