Hazard burn in Yarralumla

Firefighters will clear debris at Stirling Park in Yarralumla today.

The small burn, conducted by the ACT Rural fire Service, will target piles of vegetation previously cleared by the National Capital Authority.

A planned grass burn at the site has been post-phoned due to the weather.

Dependent on wind conditions, some smoke may affect the area.

It is normal for stumps and heavy logs to continue to smoulder. Staff will continue to monitor the burn until no smoke is visible for 24 hours.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
