ACT firefighters heading to the Monaro

An ACT Taskforce will head interstate tonight to assist with extinguishing a fire south of the Territory.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency late this afternoon agreed to a request from the NSW Rural Fire Service for support on the fire ground at Shannon’s Flat, 20 kilometres north of Cooma.

The Taskforce will be made up of volunteer members of the ACT Rural Fire Service and staff from Parks Brigade.

The team will take a total of ten firefighting appliances on the deployment including two heavy fire tankers, six medium fire tankers and two light units plus command vehicles.

The Taskforce is expected to commence property protection and fire containment on arrival later tonight.
