Hazard reduction burns continue in Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve

Controlled burns in the Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve will continue tomorrow, Thursday, January 9, 2014, weather permitting.

The ACT Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) has advised experienced fire managers will conduct the burn with support from trained fire-figthers from ACT Parks and Conservation, ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is I13.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
