Two hazard reduction burns in the ACT tomorrow

The ACT Rural Fire Service will tomorrow, Saturday 1 June, 2013, conduct two separate hazard reduction burns at Kowen and Latham, weather permitting.

The Molonglo River burn at Kowen will commence at 9.30am east of the Yass and Sutton Roads intersection, between the Molonglo River and Railway line.

Two heavy tankers, two command vehicles, one medium tanker, one light unit and 15 personnel will conduct the burn, which will be approximately 14 hectares in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Pialligo burn will be M13.

The Latham burn will commence at 12.00pm, at Umbagong District Park near Florey Drive.

One heavy tanker, one light unit, one command vehicle and nine personnel will conduct the burn of approximately 1.5 hectares in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Latham burn will be J10.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have anydifficulties.
